Southend United are set to sign a right-back before Tuesday's National League fixture against Tamworth. Manager Kieron Dyer expects the deal to be completed in time for the match at Roots Hall.

Dyer confirmed the move is intended to address a shortage of competition on the right side of defence. "It's obviously cover," the Southend boss said. He pointed out that the squad otherwise has two players for every position, a situation he wants to maintain across the pitch.

The Shrimpers head into the game sitting fifth in the table with 14 points from seven matches. Their recent form shows two wins, two draws and one defeat from the last five outings.

This defensive reinforcement comes as Southend look to build on a 2-2 draw away at Carlisle last time out. The club's current squad list, including versatile defender Dan Cox who can play left-back and centre-half, is available on our squad page. The new signing is scheduled to be finalised before kick-off on Tuesday night.
