The Blue Boar holds a special place in Southend lore, serving as the birthplace of the club over a century ago. When Wilson was approached to create the piece, he recalled the venue’s role in saving the team and felt honoured to capture Maher’s legacy. "King Kev helped save my dad’s club," Wilson said, noting the mural’s purpose to honour a figure who has done more for Southend than anyone else.
The wall‑sized portrait shows Maher in a classic pose, flanked by club colours and subtle references to his playing days. Maher himself visited the pub to sign the work, bringing a match‑worn shirt as a token of gratitude. "It felt odd after Wembley, leaving quietly without a proper thank you," Maher admitted, emphasizing the personal significance of the tribute.
