Sahid Kamara scored a dramatic winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time to secure a 2-1 comeback victory for Southend United at Boston United. The result lifts Southend to third in the National League, with 27 points from their opening 13 games.
Ollie Bostock had given the hosts a shock lead inside the first minute, with the Boston player later saying he "jinked infield and unleashed a beauty from 20 yards which gave Joe Duncan no chance". Southend responded well and drew level in the 16th minute when Josh Popoola crossed for Promise Omochere to score his fourth goal of the season.
The Shrimpers had to make an early change when Omochere was replaced by Zavier Massiah-Edwards in the 38th minute. Goalkeeper Joe Duncan made a vital save to deny Connor McBride after the break, while defender Connor Teale produced a magnificent block to stop Lewys Twamley. The decisive moment arrived deep into added time when Kyle McAdam set up substitute Sahid Kamara, whose strike was described as being of "equal quality to Bostock's earlier in the contest".
Manager Kieron Dyer made four changes during the game, including introducing Kamara for Popoola just after the hour mark. The win extends Southend's recent form to two consecutive victories. Southend's next match is an FA Cup tie against Berkhamsted on Saturday 17 October.
