Harry Taylor Returns to Boost Southend's Squad
Southend United head coach Kieron Dyer was pleased to see Harry Taylor return from injury against Leyton Orient. Taylor had been sidelined by a heel injury in pre-season prior to playing the second half of Saturday's clash with the O's.
What Happened?
Taylor had been training for only a week before returning to action, and Dyer was impressed with his performance. "It was important Harry got minutes and it's important all our players are up to match speed," said Dyer. "Harry has only been training for a week. He comes into a game like that when we've not got the ball and all credit to him."
Why It Matters for Southend
The return of Taylor and the expected debut of Ryan Colclough against Aveley will be a boost to the squad. Colclough joined Southend last week and is expected to play against Aveley on Saturday. "We've got Ryan Colclough in the building and he's been working really hard," said Dyer. "He's going to get some minutes against Aveley."
What Comes Next?
Southend United are currently 6th in the National League, 27 points behind leaders York. The team has scored 83 goals this season, conceding 47, with a +36 goal difference. Their recent form has been 1W-2D-2L, with their last result being a 0-0 draw against Wealdstone on 17 May 2026.
Southend United's head coach Kieron Dyer is confident that the team will start the new season positively, despite being short of players. "We're probably two or three players short still though," said Dyer. "If we do the business that we want it bolsters our squad but even if we don't get them done at the moment I'm still confident we will still start the league in a positive way."
The team's recent form has been a mix of wins and losses, with their last five games resulting in 1 win, 2 draws, and 2 losses. Southend United will be looking to improve their form and challenge for a top spot in the National League.
