Southend's Roots Hall was the venue for a charity football match that raised more than £1,600 for a vital south Essex charity. The Sue Trusler Memorial match, now in its 13th year, was started to preserve the legacy of the much-loved volunteer fundraiser, who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 2013. Teams faced off against each other in last Friday's match, which was attended by mascots, an MP, and Sue's family. The event was organised by Lee Clark, a friend of Sue's and match organiser, who described it as a wonderful success with plenty of smiles all around. The match was sponsored by KRG Property Maintenance and raised £1,653.75 for Havens hospices. Southend East and Rochford Labour MP, Bayo Alaba, was in attendance, along with mascots from Southend United and Adventure Island. Sue's family travelled down from Yorkshire to watch the match, which was a testament to the community's support for the charity. The annual match serves to preserve Sue's legacy while raising vital funds for Havens hospices, a charity largely reliant on donations. The event is a favourite among locals, with many people coming together to make it a success. Lee Clark always looks forward to this incredible fundraiser, which has become an important part of the community. The charity match has been running for 13 years, and its success is a reflection of the community's commitment to supporting local causes.
