Shrimpers Secure Vital Three Points in Thrilling Wealdstone Clash
Southend United dug deep to earn a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wealdstone at Roots Hall, much to the delight of the faithful home support. Goals from Keenan Appiah-Forson and Charlie Kendall sealed the win, despite a late scare from the visitors.

What a relief! Southend United showed grit and determination this past weekend, bagging a crucial three points against a tenacious Wealdstone side at our beloved Roots Hall. It wasn't always pretty, but when the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 2-1 to the Shrimpers, and that's all that matters in this relentless league.
The early exchanges saw our lads assert themselves, playing with a palpable hunger that has become a trademark of this squad. The breakthrough came thanks to a moment of individual brilliance from Keenan Appiah-Forson. His strike, delivered with precision and power, nestled into the back of the net, sending a wave of euphoria through the stands. It was a goal that settled some early nerves and truly ignited the atmosphere. We continued to press, creating several half-chances, but went into the interval with just that slender one-goal advantage. There was a feeling that we needed to make our dominance count for more in the second half.
And count it did, at least initially! Charlie Kendall, showing his predatory instincts, doubled our lead with a well-taken finish that had the home faithful roaring. At 2-0 up, the game felt firmly in our grasp, and visions of a comfortable finish danced in the collective imagination. However, football rarely adheres to scripts, especially at this level. Wealdstone, to their credit, refused to lie down. They pushed back with renewed vigour, and their persistence paid off when Micah Obiero pulled one back, injecting a sudden, unwelcome dose of tension into the final quarter of an hour. From that moment, it became a test of our defensive resolve and mental fortitude, with every clearance, every block, and every tackle met with cheers of encouragement from the terraces. Our defence, marshalled brilliantly, stood firm under considerable pressure, ensuring we saw out the game.
This win, while perhaps not our most aesthetically pleasing performance, speaks volumes about the character within this squad. It’s these hard-fought victories, where you have to dig deep and grind out a result, that often define a successful season. The gaffer will undoubtedly be pleased with the outcome, and while there might be areas to fine-tune, securing maximum points against a tricky opponent is always cause for celebration. This triumph not only boosts our league position but, more importantly, keeps the momentum rolling as we look ahead to the next challenge. Up the Shrimpers!
