Semi-Final Dominance

Southend will face Sandwick in the Shetland Parish Cup final at Gilbertson Park on Saturday. The match follows Southend's 9-goal win over Delting in the semi-final, where they scored 15 goals in three games without conceding.

Final Preview

Shetland Parish Cup president Iain Smith said the trophy is a “tremendously hard” prize and that the final will be a “mouth-watering” match. He noted that both sides have shown a high standard on their way to the shows, with Southend having scored 15 goals across their three matches and remaining unbeaten in defence. Sandwick, meanwhile, has scored six goals in their two rounds, conceding only once. Smith added that the two old rivals have been the best teams in the competition this year, with Southend in rich form and Sandwick having reached the final two years ago.

Community Spirit

Smith highlighted the community spirit that surrounds the competition, noting that people and families of all ages have turned out to support their parishes. During the Sunday semi-final, a mini-parish cup match was played behind the goals as Southend and Delting bairns contested a 27-22 victory for Southend. He praised the collection that was held and donated to Peter Peterson’s family, describing it as a “very nice touch.”
