Southend United have strengthened their attacking options with the loan signing of striker Promise Omochere from Bristol Rovers for the remainder of the season. Head coach Kieron Dyer confirmed the 25-year-old's arrival and suggested he could make his debut in Saturday's National League fixture against Yeovil Town at Roots Hall.

The Shrimpers sit third in the National League with 13 points from six games, their recent form reading WDLWW. They have scored 12 goals while conceding eight, giving them a positive goal difference of four. Dyer's side are just three points behind leaders Boreham Wood as they aim to maintain their strong start.

Omochere arrives at Roots Hall having endured an injury-hit spell with League Two side Bristol Rovers. Dyer acknowledged the striker's recent fitness challenges but reported he has been training well and looks sharp. The manager noted Omochere offers a different profile to existing forwards Harry Cardwell and Charley Kendall, and can also operate from a wide position where he has played much of his career.

"We feel that we’ve got good strikers in the place and it might be when we look at his data and if he’s fatigued then he might miss a game," Dyer told reporters. The coaching staff plan to carefully monitor Omochere's minutes and data to manage his workload as he builds match fitness.

Dyer explained the signing was necessary due to squad depth concerns, particularly following an injury to Sahid Kamara. The club also allowed Slav Spasov to depart knowing they would bring in a replacement. The manager stated recruitment is essential to building something substantial at the club.

"Obviously, at the club, we want to be starting something really good and recruitment is a massive part of that," Dyer said. He added that the only negative in Omochere's career so far has been a lack of robustness, something the coaching staff will work to improve.

Dyer indicated this might not be the last addition before the window closes. He suggested the club could be active in bringing more players in over the next week to further bolster the squad. The manager even mentioned he wouldn't be surprised if they added a traditional 'fox in the box' type striker as well.

The immediate opportunity comes this weekend at Roots Hall. Yeovil Town provide the opposition as Southend look to continue their solid home form. Dyer will assess Omochere's readiness throughout the week before making a selection decision.
